The Education for All Coalition has developed resources for local organizers in preparation for the March 4 National Day of Action to Defend Public Education.

"Yet here it is, that same message: “educate to outcompete the rest of the world, or die,” emblazoned on the flag being carried by the Obama administration as it wages a zero tolerance war on America’s public schools at the same time as it plays Santa Claus to the banking industry, the industries that profit from defense manufacture and war, and the private health insurance industry."

Is there a “constitutional right to education”? Legal scholar and civil rights advocate Erwin Chemerinsky says there is. “There has to be a right to education in the Constitution,” he declares, “and equal protection is a Constitutional imperative.”

"Once my dad and I got involved," he said, "we traveled to some of the wealthier districts in Ohio and some of the poorest. I think I can speak for both of us when I say we were shocked. The wealthier schools had every college prep class you could imagine and extracurricular activities I thought only colleges offered. They had facilities and learning materials rivaled by none, then we visited some of the poorest schools and it was like being in a third world country. Buildings falling down, textbooks from the 60s and 70s, and minimal college prep courses, if any.”

Campus Free Speech proves with its new report, Facts Still Count, that David Horowitz's recent books are not honest in their criticisms of campuses and faculty. The Center for Campus Free Speech is affiliated with the Democratizing Education Network, and a great source of information regarding important academic freedom and campus free speech issues.

"Democratizing Our Universities to Confront Climate Change" was a workshop held at PowerShift 2009, in Washington, DC. The speakers are Ben Manski of Liberty Tree and Meaghan Linick-Loughley and Atlee McFellin of New School University.

If the people are generally progressive, and the system is the problem, then a movement to establish rule by the people – a democracy movement – could be the solution.
