REPORT: 250,000 German students protest corporatization
June 18, 2009
Submitted by "Mo" of Marburg, Germany
Since Monday there have been massive protests across Germany.
Yesterday more than 250.000 people in more than 100 cities took to the streets to protest the commercialisation of public education and the Bologna process. You can check out the numbers for each city here: http://www.bildungsstreik.net/demozahlen/
Today a "day of civil disobedience" is being called for.
Many more occupations and other actions are expected.
Right now various institutions and university buildings are occupied and open spaces are used to discuss and reflect the education system. Among the occpied places are: Frankfurt/M (AfE-tower [a huge university building]), Berlin (Villa BEL [campus building]), Konstanz (Audimax [biggest hall on campus]), Göttingen (office of the university's president) und Heidelberg (rector's office) and Marburg [institut of political sciences]).
Here are some reports:

Thanks to all who sent in mails of support so far!! I printed them all out and forwarded them to the huge mailing list with activist groups from across Germany involved in the struggle.
Please help to spread the word about this and show activists and non-activists in your area, that this is a global struggle!! And that people in Germany are also resisting the commercialisation, commodification and privatisation of public education and fight for free and emancipatory public education for all with more freedom and less pressure!
