"We the Corporations?" Life & Law in the U.S.A. after Citizens United v. FEC is a one day conference addressing that historic decision, and featuring reactions to it from some of the nation's leading democracy campaigners and experts on the doctrine of corporate constitutional rights.

Conference at University of Minnesota on questions of neoliberalization and corporatization of higher education and the casualization of academic labor.

Students, teachers, workers and parents around the world ask themselves: Is the public education system still serving the interests of the public, or is the focus shifting to implement education systems that primarily serve private and business interests? Tuition fees are – once introduced – sky-rocketing, universities and schools are turned into businesses, student debt keeps increasing and education budgets cut.

The purpose of this conference is both simple and extremely urgent: to democratically decide on a state-wide action plan capable of winning this struggle, which will define the future of public education in this state, particularly for the working-class and communities of color.

Join students and youth from across the United States for Students for a Democratic Society's 4th National Convention.

 Public education systems, from kindergarten to university, must prioritize emancipating aspects, be free and accessible to all. A democracy only exists, if society consists of emancipated and self-determined individuals, that are able to critically reflect their society, developments and power structures. Any system that doesn’t fulfill these criteria is not a democracy.

Major speakers include Robert Redford, Amy Goodman, Naomi Klein, Barbara Ehrenreich, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and the editorial staff of the Progressive Magazine. Liberty Tree's Ben Manski, together with various members of Liberty Tree's Board of Directors and Board of Advisors -- John Nichols and Robert McChesney, among them -- will also be speaking at this exciting event.

We seek to create a space for collective re-evaluation of the university in crisis as an opportunity for real transformation. "Reworking the University" seeks to draw together academics, artists, and activists, to share and produce political visions, strategies and demands for building an alternative university in common.
